Film Production
Corporate
films are becoming the most effective way of communicating
key messages to an audience, whether being used to assist
in the sales process, or conveying important safety or training
messages. With recent changes in technology, this medium is
now within the financial grasp of most companies, and can
help to build both brand and image for a business.
With changing technologies, the way in which film can be
used is expanding dramatically. The following represent some
of the ways that film is currently being communicated:
- DVD for presentation to an audience
- MPEG4 for use with a portable multi-media player
- Streaming video on your web-site
- Podcasting from your web site
- Clips to insert into a Powerpoint presentation
Pricing
is also changing and, whilst corporate films are certainly
still being made for tens of thousands of pounds, a simple,
short clip for a Powerpoint can be filmed and edited for just
a few hundred pounds, whilst a single location corporate film
can be made for between £2000 and £3000. The main
factors affecting price are:
- Length of the film
- Number of locations
- Use of actors or own staff
- Selection of famous or library music
- Selection of famous or professional voiceover

In 2004 we carried out some research on the ability of an
audience to remember a number of key points in a presentation,
using a variety of different media. 20 points were used, and
measurements were taken on how many points came to mind after
1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month.

As can be seen film came out as the most effective, with
personal presentations coming a close second. It was interesting
to note that a maximum of 25% of key points were forgotten
after only 1 hour. Experience suggests that repetition would
be effective, however no research has been done to date.
